I am a project scientist and freelance science
writer based in Santa Barbara, CA. After training
at the University of California in Santa Barbara in the Molecular Cellular and
Developmental Biology Department and working as a post doctoral fellow
and project scientist, I began writing science for a general audience.
While I stayed home with my two young children, I became fascinated with the intersection between academia, primary research literature and society. My interests in biology, neuroscience, the outdoors and the science behind everyday happenings drive my writing. I am a member of the National Association for Science Writers and have published on a wide variety of topics in Miller McCune, The Santa Barbara Independent, Scientific American Mind, Coastal Woman and my own blog.
Now, I’m back in the lab working with the Cell Biology Thrust of The California Project to Cure Blindness and maintaining a dizzying equilibrium between career, parenting and playing. Aside spending time at the bench and computer, I've been accused of having too many pastimes. So when I'm not donning a white coat or plunking at the keyboard, I might be volunteering at school, turning the compost, or watching zombie movies.
